Federal Minimum Wage Increase

On July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage increased to $7.25 per hour.  This change reflects the third and final federal minimum wage increase under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) as amended in 2007.  At this time, many minimum wage state laws will also change.  In cases where an employee is subject to both state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the greater of the two wages.  The U.S. Department of Labor maintains a list of state minimum wage laws at http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm.
