  • Paul Prather was a guest on the March 26, 2011 Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club Radio Show. The Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club is a team of member businesses working together to host over 100 events each year, focused on enriching leaders and impacting the community. The hour-long Radio Show covers a variety of topics and features interviews with local business, community, and government leaders. During the Radio Show, Mr. Prather spoke about the Firm and its services, its strategies for assisting companies to remain union-free, social media, recent trends in cases filed under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, and practicing law in Memphis. Kaplan and Jay W. Kiesewetter were selected for the Super Lawyers honor based on their extensive employment and labor law experience and Paul E. Prather was selected for his experience in employment defense litigation.  Jay W. Kiesewetter and Paul E. Prather were also listed among the Top One Hundred Super Lawyers in Tennessee.  Tanja L. Thompson and Amber Isom-Thompson were identified as Rising Stars - a list highlighting the region’s young attorneys - for their experience in employment and labor law.

  • Kiesewetter Wise Kaplan Prather PLC has been ranked a "first-tier" law firm for Labor & Employment in Tennessee by Chambers USA's 2010 Client Guide.  The Firm is one of only three first-tier law firms named in Tennessee.  Chambers USA is an annual publication of Chambers & Partners of London, which publishes key guides for the legal profession.  Chambers USA also ranked Paul Prather as one of only three first-tier attorneys in Labor & Employment in Tennessee.  Mr. Prather is the only Memphis attorney listed in that category.  Jay Kiesewetter is mentioned in Chambers USA as a "key individual" with the firm, along with Jonathan Kaplan and Paul Prather.

  • Kiesewetter Wise attorneys volunteered their time coaching five local Shelby County high school mock trial teams.  Attorneys Lisa Lichterman Leach and Kimberly Brown-Gibbs coached two teams, the Red team and the Gold team, from St. George’s.  Nicole H.   • Kiesewetter Wise Kaplan Prather PLC was selected as one of only three Band One labor and employment law practices in the State of Tennessee in Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2009 edition). Jay W. Kiesewetter, Jonathan E. Kaplan and Paul E. Prather were all recognized among the outstanding labor and employment lawyers in Tennessee in the same edition.
  • Jay W. Kiesewetter has been elected as a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation. Mr. Kiesewetter was inducted at the Foundation’s annual dinner in Nashville on January 15, 2010.
  • Paul E. Prather has been elected as Fellows in the Litigation Council of America. The Litigation Council of America is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one half of one percent of all lawyers in America. Fellows are selected based on both effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation, both at trial and appellate levels and on superior ethical reputation.
  • Paul Prather and Alex Boals have blogged regarding Fair Labor Standards Act issues related to adjustments to salaries for exempt employees on the internet blog of the Wage and Hour Defense Institute. The blog entitled “Thoughts on Controlling Salary Costs for Exempt Employees in a Down Economy” can be accessed at http://wagehourdefense.wordpress.com Mr. Prather is a member of the Wage and Hour Defense Institute, a national organization of attorneys representing employers with regard to wage and compensation related advice and litigation.
  • On May 12, 2011, Paul Prather presented a webinar held by the National Institute of Business & Management titled "Preventing Employee Misconduct in a Digital World - Harassment, Facebook, Bullying, Texting, and More."
  • Lisa Lichterman Leach, Paul E. Prather and Tanja L. Thompson spoke during the 2011 Memphis Bar Association Bench Bar Conference in May.  Ms. Leach and Ms. Thompson presented, "The Times They Are a Changing: Recent Developments in Labor and Employment Law."  Mr. Prather spoke on "Trial Techniques in Employment Law Cases."
  • Jonathan Kaplan and Paul Prather presented at the LEAP 2011 Seventh Annual Labor and Employment Law Advanced Practices Symposium, held March 31-April 1, 2011.  Mr. Kaplan spoke on the topic, "The New NLRB & Unions - Working Together to Change Your Workplace."  Mr. Prather spoke on the topic, "Beyond Sex: The New Face of Harassment - Facebook, Bullying, Texting and More."
  • Tanja L. Thompson presented the management perspective during a March 16, 2011 webinar and teleconference for the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law on the topic, "Full Speed Ahead: A Review of Recent NLRB Decisions and Regulatory Actions."

  • On December 3, 2010, Paul E. Prather presented the "Supreme Court & Sixth Circuit Update" with Hon. Ron Gillman at the Memphis Bar Association's Labor & Employment Law Section Annual Seminar.
  • On August 4, 2010, Lisa L. Leach presented an FMLA Update for the Memphis Bar Association at a seminar sponsored by the Labor & Employment Law Section.
  • On April 28, 2010, Lisa L. Leach and Tanja L. Thompson presented at the Memphis Bar Association 2010 Bench Bar Conference on the topic, “Labor & Employment Law Update: Perceptions & Predictions.”
  • Jonathan Kaplan and Paul Prather spoke at LEAP’s 6th Annual Labor and Employment Law Advanced Practices Symposium in April 2010 in San Diego, California.  On April 22, 2010, Mr. Kaplan spoke about unions in the workplace, including the latest trends, organizing techniques and key legislative and regulatory developments.  On April 23, 2010, Mr. Prather spoke about legal issues associated with employment-related promises and managing employee expectations through communication.
  • On March 3, 2010, Alex Boals and Lisa Leach spoke at the Fundamentals of Employment Law Conference presented by Sterling Education Services in Memphis.  Lisa Leach spoke on the topic, “Hiring & Terminating Employees in the Current Economy,” and Alex Boals spoke on the topic “Compensation Issues Under FLSA / Wage and Hour."
  • Steven W. Likens presented a session at the Memphis Bar Association’s annual continuing legal education program on Labor and Employment Law, hosted at the University of Memphis on December 4, 2009, regarding Drafting and Enforcing Restrictive Covenants along with the Honorable Chancellor Arnold Goldin.
  • Paul Prather and Tanja Thompson participated in the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law Annual Conference in Washington, D.C, which was held November 4-7, 2009. Mr. Prather presented closing arguments in a Mock Presentation of a Summary Jury Trial.  Ms. Thompson delivered a presentation entitled, “As the Pendulum Swings: The Role of Precedent in National Labor Relations Board Decisions.”
  • Paul E. Prather presented a paper on November 4, 2009 in Washington, D.C. regarding United States Supreme Court developments in the area of employment law at the Labor and Employment Law Advanced Practices Symposium sponsored by the National Institute of Business Management.
