New E-Verify User Manuals Available

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released new E-Verify user manuals for employers (M-775), federal contractors (M-574), and E-Verify employer agents (M-776).

The new manuals reflect recent changes to the E-Verify website and offer additional guidance regarding enrollment in, and proper use of, the E-Verify program.  For example, among other things, the new manual for employers provides guidance with regard to determining an employee's hire date for purposes of E-Verify, which impacts deadlines for completation of Section 2 of the Form I-9 and enrollment in the E-Verify process and provides simplified guidance as to the E-Verify system's initial and interim case result functions.

Furthermore, the new manual for federal contractors provides detailed guidance on the new E-Verify interface and essential resources available to E-Verify participants and the applicability of E-Verify requirements for federal contractors with contracts containing Federal Acquisition Regulation E-Verify clauses.

In light of the USCIS's recently heightened scrutiny of compliance with E-Verify requirements, it has become fundamentally important for employers, federal contractors, and E-Verify employer agents to understand and adhere to the guidance provided by these new user manuals.
