Ms. Bermel represents clients in all areas of employment and labor relations.  Ms. Bermel focuses her practice on employment litigation in defense of management under both state and federal employment law statutes.  Ms. Bermel also advises clients on litigation avoidance, labor relations, and compliance with various federal employment statutes, and she is an annual Contributing Editor for the Employment Law Chapter of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) yearly publication Annual Review of Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation (2010-2011 editions).

Ms. Bermel graduated magna cum laude from Sewanee: The University of the South, where she received a B.A. with honors in philosophy and a minor in political science.  While an undergraduate student, Ms. Bermel interned for the Honorable John R. McCarroll of the Circuit Court of Tennessee for the 30th Judicial District at Memphis.

Ms. Bermel received her J.D. degree magna cum laude at the University of Memphis while serving on the Editorial Board for The University of Memphis Law Review.  During law school, Ms. Bermel interned for both the Honorable Judge Diane K. Vescovo, Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Tennessee, and the National Labor Relations Board, District 26.  As a Cecil C. Humphreys law fellow, Ms. Bermel was honored to conduct legal research for several professors in the areas of Civil Procedure and Evidence.  She was the recipient of the Robert and Elaine Hoffman Memorial Scholarship and the East Tennessee Foundation Scholarship, and she received CALI awards for excellence in Property II and ADR/Mediation and was named Who’s Who Among American College Students.  Upon graduation, Ms. Bermel served as a law clerk to the Honorable David R. Farmer of the Tennessee Court of Appeals.

Ms. Bermel is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the American and Tennessee Bar Associations, and she is admitted to practice before the state courts of Tennessee and Mississippi; the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; and the United States District Courts for the Western District of Tennessee, the Northern District of Mississippi, and the Southern District of Mississippi.
